I'm looking at a 2006 228g Seafarer on Thursday of this week with the same year Yamaha 225 four stroke (1100hrs). The owner claims it was shrink wrapped each winter and maintained by the a certified Yamaha mechanic. Also, no bottom paint ever. He's asking $29k with no trailer, does that seem out of line? My local dealer is offering me a brand new Load Rite 6000# trailer for $5k.

I would appreciate any thoughts on my possible purchase, Thanks

That seems like a steal of a deal. I bought my boat, a 2004 Grady White 228 Seafarer with a 2004 Yamaha F225 on it @ just under 1k hours and a 2009 aluminum I-beam trailer back in October of 2021 in Maryland for $26.5k. As long as the boat and engine checks out, the outboard doesn't have the dry exhaust corrosion issue and you can find a trailer to use... under $35k total cost involved imo is a fantastic deal, especially with it being a newer 2006 model.

Thank you for the reply. I used to be pretty good at pricing out boats, but these days boat prices are all over the place.

Part of it depends on where you're looking... east coast prices are typically much less than they are out here in the PNW/Seattle area. Like I said, I bought my boat for $26.5k and have seen 3 nearly identical boats to mine sell since then for between $55k-$65k. As mentioned before, a total cost of less than $35k for a 2006 boat is imo a very good price and pending a favorable inspection, would definitely be in on that deal.

I’d say that’s a good deal. If it’s got a hard top and enclosure then better deal. You will want to make sure that the midsection exhaust corrosion has either been addressed or doesn’t seem to be an issue though.
