Well guys , my two year old yamy 200 has sprung an oil leak. It shows up on the base gasket at the bottom of the block. Very disappointed. A little over 200 hours on the outboard. Thought at first it was the base gasket as it leaks very slowly and after a few times out enough builds up to to run down and be seen on the anti cavitation plate. I have not spoken to the yamy rep but the dealer did, and he said it is more than the base gasket and the block will probably have to be split to fix a seal. To have said that it appears to me that this may be a known issue. Thankfully it is under warranty. My concern is, once you split a factory block and repair, does at all comprise the longevity of the outboard. Hopefully all can be returned to like new, as I do like the 200 and 208 grady combo. She goes in for surgery next week as I will be nervously stand by in the waiting room. Cheers trapper p.s. Anyone out there with the same issue?

Leaks on the 4 strokes are fairly common but yours at two years is surprising. Assuming that your mechanic is qualified, there should be no issues with the power head removal and seal replacement. It should be as good as it was before the repair (without leaking of course)
The only concern I would raise is that on older 4s with the leak, it is advisable while the power head is off, to replace the oil pump. Since your motor is so young, I don't know if that step is advised.

Thanks seasick, for your positive reply. The technician is a good Yamaha man so I will believe all will be well with a quick recovery and back out on the brine. Happy Summer to all!!!

Picked up my 208 on Friday from the shop. The Yamy tech told me the blocK had to be split to repair the leak. Th machined surfaces require a liquid gasket, evidently the the factory computer did not lay enough of the material on a few of the F200 models before it was corrected The Yamy rep was aware of this issue as the tech was told to prepare for a split block repair. About 11 hours to fix. Yes under warranty so will be out this week to give her a run. One year left on the warranty so trust any issues will be found before expiration date. My fourth yamaha 4 stroke and the first one with any issues, so hope all will be fine going forward. Cheers, trapper

That's interesting and a new one to me.
Good luck and happy boating
