I recently purchased a 2009 205 Tournament w/ 200hp Yamaha w 230 hrs. It came with a 15 1/2 x 17 saltwater series 2 prop. I love the boat. WOT is 5200 rpm 36mph.

Is there a better choice for prop? I do mostly fishing with one or two people. With an occasionally cruise w a larger group.

Thanks

Dave

Calculated slip at 5200 revs is a bit over 20% which seems high to me.

The typical prop diameter for F200 in-line four is 14 1/2 inch diameter, 17 or 18 pitch

Thanks, for the information. I have asked Grady White for engine specs. The engine was trimmed up.

You don't need Grady for the engine specs/RPM - that's Yamaha. Heck, a quick google will probably tell you that.

Can you clarify "engine was trimmed up"? It's not specific enough to explain properly.

Is the bottom perfectly clean?

I based my answer on the assumption that the motor is an I4 model. It may be a V6. Also, does the boat have trim tabs?

As mentioned, the WOT revs are in range, perhaps a bit low but the slip calculation seems high. With respect to motor trimmed up. The amount of motor trim is not very useful info. What is important it that when running WOT, you adjust the throttle in small steps, waiting a good 10 seconds or more between steps while noting the GPS ( not the speedo) speed. As you trim from up from all trimmed down, the speed should increase and eventually decrease, The last trim setting before the speed decreases is the sweet spot.
During this test, prop should not blow out. If it does, you have other things to look into

Thanks everyone for the feedback. The engine is an F200TXR 6 cylinder. The boat has bottom paint but no growth. It has electric trim tabs. The rpm spec range looks to be 5-6000. Attached is a performance test from a similar weighted boat.

I will test the WOT with your suggestions and report back. The boat surveyor did the WOT test and I don’t see how it was trimmed.

Thanks

Based on what you're writing, it sounds like the first step is to simply go back out and do the trimming the way we've mentioned it above. You kinda need to do that before any other thoughts/ideas can be hashed out.

Double check the bottom paint for good measure - both for slime and a very rough surface.

Is the prop in excellent shape?

Agree. I’ll do testing. Prop is in good shape. The boat is on a lift in the winter in Florida and there’s no slime. The bottom paint is not that rough but certainly rougher than the gel coat. Thanks
