Hey Guys, I just purchased a 95 208 with a 200 yamaha 2 stroke, has the hardtop and trim tabs. This is not my first boat but my first yamaha. I have a 13 1/4 x 16 1/2 p prop and wot is 5000 rpm, speed is roughly 32mph. This is with trim tabs up and motor trimmed up just enough for best speed. Should I be looking at a few things on the motor before trying a new pitch prop? Boat gets up on plane quick, no hesitation, but from what I read I should be able to get 6k rpms wot. Thanks in advance, Tom

That prop size doesn't seem like it would be over propped for that motor. FWIW, our prop is 15.5 x 17 and our WOT is 5200 RPM, which is about 35 mph (175 hp carburated Yammy 2-stroke). Have you done a compression check on the motor? New spark plugs? Tune the carbs? That's probably where I would start, in that order.

Welcome to the forum!

Indeed, strange numbers. I'd agree with OnoEric and I'd also locate the manual for your 2-stroke to see what WOT RPM should be.

I run a 4-stroke 225 and wot is 6000 at 43-44 mph - with a 17' pitch prop.

PS>> is there bottom paint? What is the finish of your hull? All this can GREATLY affect performance (not the RPMs, though)...

Compression is 115 for all the cylinders. New plugs, fuel filters. It did sit for a year or two. I'm thinking about carbs also...guess I should invest in yamaha repair manual.

Max RPM for that motor is 5500.

What kind of shape is the bottom in? How much extra weight (junk) is in the cabin and lockers?

My 208 with a 200 ran 42-43 at 5500 rpm turning a 17" prop. I did not have a hardtop, which adds 600 lbs or so and a lot of wind resistance. Your numbers are low though....I would think 37-38 top end at 5500 rpm.

I have a 98' 208 with a 200 yamaha SWSII (carb'd). I also have a hardtop and carry a bunch of gear even when running light.
Running a yamaha sws prop 14-1/2 x 16 i see 43mph at 5500rpms on flat water. Per spec I am propped correctly.

Thanks for the replies, I ordered a yamaha manual so I will be able to check into that end when it arrives. Will post an update in the next few weeks.
