I saw a beautiful 20ft overnighter with a single 115hp Evinrude. This is the second boat that I have seen with low power. The other one had a single 120hp Force.

How do they run? Anyone have any real world experience and numbers? I know everyone is going to say its underpowered but I think 35mph top end maybe possible.

When they first came out in 1975, most of the 204Cs were rigged with either 115 or 135 hp OMC engines.

Mine ran fine with a 135 Johnson until we had more than 3 people on board or loaded diving equipment. Then it would be pretty doggy but would still get on plane. Top speed was 37 mph with one person on board. We would cruise at 25-26 mph turning 4200 rpm.

Most 115 hp engines have the same displacement as the 135-140 hp versions. The only difference is at the top end speed. You will have a top speed that is a few mph slower that I reported. The mid range torque is the same, so the boat should get up on plane as easily as with a 135-140 hp engine.
