With the discontinuation of the 228 does anybody know from past experience how long parts will be available?
I have plans to add a bow pulpit to my 228 but I was going to wait until after an electronics upgrade, autopilot and auxiliary fuel tank. May be I should be moving the pulpit up the priority list.

This sounds like a worthy phone call to the mothership and ask Grady directly. It's a good question.

I was considering two different GW 228's to buy, with similiar prices and features, but one did not have the bow pulpit.
I called the local GW dealer on getting an OEM pulpit, when I got their quote (ouch!!), bought the boat with the pulpit...

Bit the bullet and just ordered mine through the local Grady dealer.
Coming in July with the next shipment of boats.
Saves paying for the horrendous freight charges.
In Australian dollars

07-165 @ $1853.00ea

U-rail @ $250.00ea

2 x Stanchion @ $44.00ea

“Luckydude“ got the info directly from Grady White and the 228 is no longer listed on the Grady White website.

I looked into a pulpit for my 226 this spring. A Grady White dealer gave me a list of parts needed. They also mentioned that there would be fiberglass work needed. The cost for this list is almost $3,700. That is when I decided to postpone the pulpit, but it may be a winter project.

The hardware I can always get elsewhere, so my question is what parts are really needed to get the pulpit and bow rail on my boat?

Did they say what sort of fiberglass work is needed?

Is $3700 fitted as the Bow Pulpit + U Bow Rail + 2 x Stanchions come to about USD$1700.

Even with the Hardware Kit, Bow Roller, Chock Skenes and Stanchion Bases I can't see that getting anywhere near $3700.

10-557 Tubing 7/8” OD x 16 Ga. 22’6” ML 316L appears to be a complete bow rail while all that I think is needed is 33-793 BP Tubing Kit.

Thanks for posting. I now realize there are a couple of extra things that I need to order.

Times are a changing!! Bought my pulpit for my 208 from a dealer in Washington state about 8 years ago (took a trip down from Vancouver Island) I believe it was around $1500 USD, came as a complete kit with all hardware, railing, cleats etc , no anchor roller. I do remember taking the old anchor roller off the bow to fit the new pulpit. It had been bolted down with 5200 adhesive under it. It took layer of gelcoat off that was under the roller on removal. Luckily the new pulpit covered the damaged area.

No, they didn't say what fiberglass work would be needed. Price makes no sense to me either. I think I should call them again once I'm closer to pulling the trigger.

I’m waiting on a quote for the above will let you know. I would expect your price to be cheaper than mine in Australia.

After a bit of back and forth with Grady, this what I think is needed.

So I don't want to be anti Grady, I love, love, love my 228. A buddy talked up his Sea Pro and it looked a lot like the 228 for way less money. I'm fine with what I have but Grady needs to step up or they are gonna lose some business. Or not, they are a business and I've been told that they do the math and build the boats that sell. Which is fine, I'd just like someone to build the 228, it is a great boat.

Maybe the east coast doesn't like it, the west coast loves a 228.

I was wondering if you received the pulpit yet? Are the three items you listed all that you purchased from Grady?

Looking to add a pulpit to my Seafarer. For a while I had a hot lead on a used pulpit and railing, but I just found out one of your fellow Aussies beat me to the punch. The seller shipped it down under the other day, so back to square one for me.

Not yet. Was supposed to be here in the beginning of August. Coming with the next boat shipment which has been delayed. So now the second week in October. What you require is in my post above.
