I am looking at a 228 with a F225 4S and hardtop. Most of the ones I see have the F250. Does anyone have a F225 and if so, how does it perform. Enough Power? Following sea? Getting up on plane?

I have NO complaints about the performance with the F225. All and all it is a 40mph max boat. The F250 might give you 3 or so mph on the top end but quite frankly the only time I ever run WOT is in smooth water just to "exercise the engine". As for getting on plane, just make sure the engine is trimmed down and it will come right up on plane.

As for following seas, no problem at all. As on most boats just bring the tabs up and maybe trim the engine up a little to bring the bow higher.

The main difference you will find on the 228 vs the 208 is the handliing around docks and ramps. The BEST advice I can give you is to trim the engine up to the top of the trim cylinders when you are approaching a dock or ramp. Doing that ensures you have good control, especially in reverse. Trimming the engine up to the top of the trim range assures your reverse thrust goes UNDER the transom instead of AGAINST it. Any 228 owner will ditto this advice.

Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions. I have ZERO "buyer's remorse" about our boat/engine choice.

Just took mine on a 500 mile roundtrip journey with four full sized (well, maybe over full sized) adults, full tanks, fish boxes full of beer/water/gatorade/ice/etc and a cabin full of gear through very rough water. We were very happy with the performance.

Very good advice.
