I took advantage of the great weather earlier this week and took the boat for shake down cruise. The first thing I noticed is that my new to me 1988 seafarer hardtop with a 1997 Yamaha 200 SWS carbed would only get up to 4700 rpms. If I trimmed it until near cavitation I could just get 5100rpms. 31knots max speed. Then the fun began as i was returning to the inlet I spun the prop. Luckily some fellow coastguardsmen were nearby and escorted us back through the inlet. I was able to limp back at 2 knots. I have now traded out my 14.5 x 19 ballistic prop for a 14.25x 18 vented Yamaha prop. I hope to get out again soon and see how she does. I know some people are having good luck with some 14.5 or 15 x 17p props. I found the 18p for a steal. I just wonder how the performance will be. I hope to find a 17p to trade for my 19 Ballistic for a spare/primary. Let me know what combinations you have had success with.

See if you can find a Merc Mirage Plus in a 15.25 x 17. That is what I ran on my 226 / 200 HPDI and what I'm running currently on the 225.

It will bring your WOT RPM up to around 5400 or so....with good out of the hole power, and a top end around 41 or so.

You can generally find used ones on eBay or CL. You will also need a Flo Torq hub kit, which runs around $40 or so.

I have a F250 and a 228. It came propped with 15.5 x 17 Yammy SSII and last summer I put on a 4 blade 15.25x 16 prop and it has made a marked improvement in low end torque, better turning, improved following sea performance, better planing at lower RPMs, and a little better fuel economy. Not sure how the 200 2 stroke would perform but I am glad I went to a 4.blade prop.
