265 Bilge Pump replacement

Getting ready to splash my new to me 265. Need to repair/replace my aft bilge pump as it is original, and not working.Anyone done this? What did you go with? I assume that part of the floor needs to come up for access?

Check to see if the float switch is the issue before a complete change out. Both of mine (forward and aft) are easily observed and accessible. I believe yours will be as well.
 
yes, the rear deck plate will need to be pulled up, and the pump should be right there.
 
Getting at the float switch thru the 6" round port requires one really long arm. Best to remove the deck. See my post "265 mods" about that deck. You can see the bilge pump and new float switch in the picture.

The float switches are strange, very hard to manually turn on. You have to twist the wires. Then they break off! I have replaced both of mine already.
There is a fuse for the Aft float switch mounted in the Port(pretty sure) battery compartment. Fuse for Fwd float switch is in Stbd battery compartment...or vice versa...can't remember now...
The switch on the dash has a breaker for the manual power.
 
Thanks guys, yeah- that's a weird looking float switch for sure. I hear a faint noise when I turn it on from the helm . I poured a bucket of water in there and it did not turn on. Thinking about just replacing it since it is 16 years old, although it looks new and rig was dry stored it's entire life . 480 total hours
 
Easiest way is to pull the entire plate - we ended up taking it to a glass shop and having a hinge put in. Access no longer an issue.
 
I hit send to fast - do a search, I posted some pics of it a few years ago.
 
I thought about the hinge idea, gonna run it by my glass guy.

I'd just replace with an identical model to make it easy. Should be pretty quick and you know what you have in your bilge.
 
While your in there replacing the bilge pump, it may not be a bad idea to add a high water alarm too if you don't already have one.
