Hey Guys,

Slowly starting to get to know my newly acquired 2001 265, between weather & work just haven't had the time I thought I would have right now!!!

Anyway, learned it DEFINITELY has some quirky handling characteristics, still working on that one, quick question though.....what is THIS (picd below) on the splash well hatch?

Thanks!!

I believe it is the damper and support for hatch.

I am not sure DB and Bill N are seeing the same picture.
In the direct center of the splash well there is a plastic insert with two slots and square cutout - I too use this for plyers and a knife when fishing.

In your photo I see the top to a hydraulic cylinder that is used to assist with lower the splash dam.

It basically makes it so that it does not slam down. The cylinder is about 9 inches long (going from memory).

Feel free to ask any additional questions.

Enjoy the boat! I have loved mine!

It seems purely ornamental or a drain but I stick pliers and crap in it.!

Hookout and knives fit in there pretty nicely - as for quirky handling, to not overtab, you will quickly become impressed with the ride.
