Hi everyone
Hoping to get some insight. I have a 95 268 islander with a single 250 Yamaha. Engine runs strong but underpowered imo. I know max for this hull is twin 200s. A few dealers are questioning the weight of twin 4strokes. Any see any issues? Or should I stick with twin 150 4 stokes? It’s only about 60lbs lighter…
The older 200 would have been 412 each new Mercury 150. 455 vs 487 for 200…
Thoughts?

I re-powered my 1998 with Yamaha twin 150’s and it ran great. 44 mph at wot and I was getting about 2mpg.

Stick with 4 cylinder 4 strokes, or new Merc v6's and you should be fine.
That same hull was eventually offered with v6 ox66's at 470 ish lbs.

Single 300 is great but if I had to do it again I would go with twins for better handling and I believe stability

I have Yamaha F150's 4-strokes on my 1997 Islander. 470 lbs each. I like mine but would consider 200's or 225's 4-cylinder for the extra HP.

I would go with a single 300 HP the extra weight puts the aft scuppers under water .

I also went to 4-blade props and dropped some pitch. Details are posted here somewhere. Game changing performance. No loss of top end and greatly improved mid-range. I still think the boat would benefit from more HP and the engines listed above are the same weight as the F150's.
