I am looking to purchase a 271 Canyon that has the port side door. Looks like there are 3 rod holders in the starboard gunnel and 2 in the port side. Can anyone who has used the 271 Canyon for tuna trolling telling me how you setup your spread? Is it possible to add more rod holders?

You have the dive door i guess, the one on the side of the boat?
It depends on how you fish for Tuna, trolling or chunking, how much rods and if you use tracker spreader bars.
I troll alone with 5 rods
2 each side in rod holders going to the outriggers mounted on the hardtop
1 on transom for center lure

I could have one more on t-top mounted rod holder working far behind, called Shotgun
If needed a teaser could be run from each outrigger as well, either with a teaser reel or from a short rod in most outside t-top rod holders.

I don't see a need for 3 rods each side in gunnel mounted rod holders.

I don't own that boat but I've spent a *lot* of time on Jens' 271, he has a 2011ish that has the big coffin box in the front.
His boat has 3 rod holders on each side, stock from the factory. I think. I know we run 6 rods for albacore, I just looked at my notes. Yes, 3 each side on the gunnels. We run the forward two on the outriggers but then use the leaning post for the two what I call meat line rods. He has aftco clips on the corners of his transom, the meatline rods have rapalas that go through those. Those rapalas have caught a lot of bigeye.

He has added two zero degree rod holders for bluefin, we use those a lot with bent butt rods.

Let me know if you need more info, we are in northern california and have put I suspect close to 2 dozen bluefin and bigeye on that boat, and dozens and dozens of albacore. We are both geared up for albacore, I went up to Fort Bragg with Jens with my original fishing buddy Barry and Barry asked "what's with all the bluefin gear?" Jens didn't say anything until we had a 150 lb bigeye on and he looked at Barry and said "here's why". I originally geared up with Penn Fathoms, those are fine reels for salmon, halibut, whatever. They are not fine for albacore when there is a bigeye in there. My albacore reels are all Penn VISX, I have 2 20s and 4 16s, they are good enough to pull in a bigeye. My bluefin reels are 30s and 50s.

I always put in zero degrees swivel rod holders in the gunnel of my various grady white boats between the two factory placed holders for trolling for tuna.
