Just ordered my first Grady , a 283 Canyon with the Yamaha 300's and I am obviously excited for delivery! As I am moving up from being a flats guy I have much to learn. I am going to go with the Garmin 5212,s in a dual config and am looking for anyone with info on a sim install. IE are you happy with these units ? Also I have decided on the Garmin 24 HD for radar . Any suggestions are welcome . THANKS !!

Congrats on the new boat. I have 4212's on mine and the same radar you looking to get and i am very happy with the plotter and radar but i wish i had my old Raymarine E120 sonar.

Can you elaborate more on the 4212 GPS/Radar and how you feel it compares to the Ray120? Ive been debating between the 42/52 series(w/Furuno sounder) vs a 120 (FF/GPS/Rdr all in one).

Would love to hear end user inputs likes and dislikes? I had a C120 all in one on my last boat, liked the simplicity and know the functions, but the Garmin seems nice too, and at a close price with adding a separate Furuno 500Series FF.

Thanks for the input , it is the user friendly features of the Garmin that I really like.I have Raymarine on my current boat and it is fantastic but not as functional for me as the Garmin.

Any particulars or details comparing the Ray to Garmin that you like better on the Garmin? Are you going with a Garmin FF or seperate?

(almost seems like the ole' Ford vs Chevy debate, but I like hearing from guys that have had or use both)

Awsome boat BTW, would love to hear details and info about those new 300's.

I don't have real problems or real dislikes for the Garmin fishfinder, but, for some reason, the E120 display and sonar "felt" more clear and i think gave me more detail.

I don't have a lot to add to this conversation, but always feel compelled to chime in when someone is considering Raymarine products. I have the Raymarine C80 with sonar and radar and it's been nothing but trouble. The system often reboots or the sonar quits and requires restarting. Raymarine's tech guys say it's a voltage problem but we get solid readings on the power lines even during engine startup. The radome failed - $700 minimum repair. The display screen turned to crap despite careful maintenance - $150 repair. When the system works it works OK but I'd never buy the line again.

I also had some troubles when i had the C series on another boat, but the E series never gave me a problem.

I installed 4210's on my 283 and love them. Same radar you are considering and after a learning curve I am happy with it. This was the first radar I have owned so it took some getting used to.
I never had anything but Garmin so I cannot compare to other manufacturer's products.

Lundinroof, thanks for the reply . Were there any particulars in your learning curve that caused more problems than others? This is also my first radar .
