The standard engine on a 258 Journey is a 300
Will this be adequate enough ?
Very little offshore use !

No it's not adequate... it's more than adequate! :D

Our 225 tops out at 45 mph on the gps in fresh water. Granted it's a 2 stroke based off a 250 powerhead = way more torque than most 225 4-strokes.
That said any 2 or 4-stroke 300 will smoke what we are running.

Btw, in case you didn't know the Journey and Voyagers are very similar.

I have a 2004 Journey 258. It was previously powered with a Yanaha F225. I recently repowered with a Yamaha F300.
I am thoroughly pleased with the performance. Plenty of power. Responds well at low end, mid range and top end.
I cruise at 30mph at 4200rpm. Fuel is 2.6 mpg. I believe the boat is powered more than adequately.

Plenty of power. I have a 250 on my 2005 258 and that amount of HP is fine. But of course a little more is always better. I bet you'd get better top end and better cruise GPH than my boat.
