Whilst I don't have experience with your boat ; I wonder if the combination of extra weight forward or back combined with the short steep aft quartering seas could have lifted the stern and caused the prop slip.
I guess most of us have experienced a certain extreme sea states where you would think your normally well behaved vessel is much harder to control and difficult to find an easy trim.
Short steep aft seas are some of the hardest to manage from my experience. No tendecy to broach, but just trying to find enough momentum to get thru the troughs without pounding off the back of the tops.
