Hi forum members!
I recently purchased a 2017 Fisherman 236. It is due for a 500 hour service. I am VERY familiar with doing a 100 hour service on Yamaha motors of various sizes.
Is the 500 hour service beyond the scope of a DIY?

Thanks for your advice.

Not a problem to do yourself. I’m about to do 100 hour service at 500 hours on my same boat same Engine. Purchased the 100 hour service kit from partsvu website for $250 delivered.

I perform while Boat is on my lift using fluid extractor to extract motor oil via dipstick tube.

A lot of tasks are the same but the 500 hour may include checking the valve clearances. That task is more complicated, especially if the valve clearances have to be adjusted. I would put that task in the "probably not" a DIY job.

There also may be some engine model and year specific items not listed in the service manual that are known potential trouble spots and should be included in the maintenance.

Sometimes it is better to have a pro do those tasks buy with you watching. That will help you determine if you feel comfortable next service interval
