Want to replace old thru hull transducer(not even hooked up anymore) with an Airmar B60 tilted element. Not sure if the 12 or 20 deg is correct. Airmar suggests mounting it as close to center of keel as possible. The keel in that location is rounded. I would think that the 12 deg would work as the rise of the hull at that point is not steep. Any thoughts/suggestions?

You could take an angle finder and see the exact amount of deadrise you have at the location you wish to mount it in. ( Is that a "run on" sentence or what?) Also I would try to keep it out of line with any raw water intakes. These will cause turbulence in front of the thru hull.

FWIW I mounted mine dead ctr. of the keel . It was a low profile Airmar .
I used an existing thru hull location that had become available due to an unforseen adventure on a previously unknown beach. :D
