Any Sailfish owners from the late 80's that can tell me how many thru hulls my '88 Sailfish has? I'm currently deployed overseas and am ordering a bunch of things to refit my boat and I don't have any pics with me to be able to count. I'm thinking 7.

I'm also looking to get a new starboard cabin door. I tried to email one of the vendors advertising on this site over a month ago but never heard back...any suggestions for a reliable company to make me a new door? I don't even need a fancy louvered one. Just basic door works for me. I still have the old door that I removed years ago but since the boat was kept in the water behind the house I was never concerned about security. I'm moving it to a new area so it will be in a marina so I want to be able to close the cabin up now but I've replaced all the old teak so I don't want the old door on there.

Thanks for any help!

I am sure someone will be along with the answer shortly. In the meantime you might be able to get an idea by going to the Grady link here and looking at Grady's old catalogs available by year on their site. Maybe long shot but maybe.

Edit - Sorry the '88 catalog does not help. They only show the port side. Two on the port side from what I see.

I didnt even think about trying a manual. Thanks for looking into that for me. I've tried looking at pictures online but it's tough to tell from them.

Which model do you have? I have a 1989 sailfish 252g. Changed all fitting and hoses when I got it about 3 years ago. Let me know if it's the same boat. The job was a real PITA. Figuring out all the sizes without being on the boat will be tough, I contacted grady white and they gave me a list of fittings used on the boat. They were real helpful. http://www.gradywhite.com/contact/ You can call them or email.
I'm in Miami and found a guy who does great starboard work locally. I used him to make new doors for the transom access panels.
Here's a post I saw about new doors....viewtopic.php?f=4&t=18087&start=0&hilit=Cabin+doors
Feel free to pm me with any questions.

I think I've emailed that guy about new doors when I first got out here on my deployment and never heard back. I'll try him again. What kind of money were they looking for for new doors?

I'll contact Grady directly and try to get a list of thru hulls. I'm not even sure what model mine is. It's the enclosed transom with bracket. I'll try to search online for my exact model.

It's been confirmed...it's a 252G. I have to remember that. Grady sent me a list of the thru hulls that were originally used. It turns out that it's not all that helpful, at least to me. I think I'll be better off pulling them a few at a time and going to a store and try to match them up. A friend just redid all of his this way but he lives 5 miles from Defender.

I did get a response about my cabin door but it's not going anywhere until I get back stateside next week since I need to provide measurements. Nothing is ever easy.

I have the same boat and I started to replace all of the tru hulls at the water line but even though Grady put access covers by them I was to big to get in there so my boat yard had a guy that could get in there to change them out, it was pretty cheap, money well spent.

I changed all my thru-hulls AND hoses. I don't know what someone would have charged me to do it, but it probably would have been a bargain! I don't think I would try to do it again. Some hoses are practically unreachable. Getting to the bait well drain fitting to change the hose was a real exercise. Jack up the floor to remove the partition, then work with one arm to remove and replace the hose and 2 hose clamps by feel only. Good luck, it CAN be done!

The bait well between the helm seats? Been there done that. Jacked up the portside helm deck from the quarter berth, oh the humanity! Worth it though the thru hull at the water line for that drain was cracked almost all the way around. Replaced it with a bronze fitting. Figured where it was open to the sea I should replace the hose too. Lots of disassembly in the storage locker behind the head too. I does make you get to know your boat and how they assembled it though. That one and the two cockpit drains were my biggest worry.

Jeff- did you replace the hose that goes to the large fish box drain? lol I had to have that one done by a fiberglass guy... cut a hole in the fish box next to the drain, put new hose on, re-glass bottom of fish box. there's NO WAY to reach it! But it connects to the bait well drain at a tee near the thru-hull, and as long as I was replacing everything, I couldn't leave it as is. Plus I think it was leaking where the hose connected to the fish box drain as it was wet under there. The deck drain hoses were a mess, but I don't think they would have ever leaked though, that was some serious hose! I replaced it with the same kind of rubber wire re-enforced hose. added a back up bilge pump with high water alarm too just in case!

Yeah the big one between the helm seats. I did think about a hole but could not bring myself to do that with out trying my way first. Your way was probably way easier. My '83 does not have the fish or bait boxes port and starboard, I have a step up to the walk around there no boxes. Think they added those in '87. My drain hose just went from the center box under the helm area to a drain at the waterline on the starboard side no T. Interesting to know how they drain the those boxes on your boat. I had to put a jack on the quarter berth under the port helm deck and put some pressure on the under side of the deck. Then I was able to remove the plywood trim piece/bulkhead that separates the fish box from the berth. Then I was able to reach the drain and hose clamps. Very tight but doable. Behind the head area I had to take some of the trim pieces out and the hose was underneath. The thru hull was a royal pain too. The deck drains were replaced when I repowered a few years back. All in all quite an adventure. Replaced the fuel tank last spring. The stuff we go through to maintain these classics huh. Love it.

I did the jack too! Learned it here on this forum! Did not put hole in bait well, just fish box. Love my old Grady!

Yeah quite a bit of work to keep the old girl in shape, looks nice when done. Hoping to be able to get started waxing the hull tomorrow. It has been cold and rainy here maybe nice tomorrow hopefully with little wind.
