I just acquired a 97 Marlin and the windlass motor is dead. It is a Leroy Somer motor model mbt82m, and I'm having trouble finding a replacement, place to have it rebuilt before I take it to Mexico later this month. Any help would be much appreciated-- It's in Long Beach, CA. Thanks __ Norm

Somer doesn't make parts for that unit apparently. The only possible source of parts might be company in England. They do not seem to do rebuilds though. Looks like a refit may be in order.

Thanks-- is there any reason a electric motor shop could not rebuild the motor?

Found a replacement motor in Connecticut for about $350 plus shipping and then found a shop to rebuild in Long Beach for $120. no brainer- motor now reinstalled and works great. The boat goes on the low boy tomorrow for it's ride to La Paz and fishing in October in the Sea of Cortez. Thanks for your help- if you provided an response-- Norm
