well, i had a change of heart. a significant one.
i de-striped my grady. i have been a fervent pro-striper in the past.
so, what happened was...
when i last filled my fuel tank, i was putting in ring-free and adding fuel incrementally to not over treat the fuel. well when i put gas in after the last addition of ringfree, i only got about a quarter gallon before it burped. the burp was highly concentrated with ring free. even though i had a rag over the fill, some must have gotten by and ran down to the rub strip. then it ran along the rub strip. then it dripped down the whole side of the boat. i didnt notice until a couple days later (spent two days in the hospital with my daughter who got e-coli, it was very bad for a bit, but she is fine now), but the whole side of the boat had severe drip stains. apparently, as it dripped over the stripe sticker, it reacted with the adhesive and created a nasty stain down to the chine. in the process, the stripe went from flat and perfect looking (it was new 2 years ago) to looking like a piece of cooked bacon. I will save you all the rest of the story, but in the process of getting the boat looking good again, i took the stripe off since it was destroyed. i actually took the boat out once with a stripe on one side and no stripe on the other. i actually liked the no stripe side better, so, off came the other one. since the hull has the ridge that the stripe matched, you still have that detail and it still says "grady", just a bit more subtly.
ironically, just after this, grady announced that 2027 boats wont have the stripe. i guess i lead the way, haha.
anyway, i apologize to those that i may have given a hard time about taking the stripe off. i am now one of you.
