I am in the process of adding a battery charger to my 268 Islander and I am thinking that having a power windlass would be a nice feature. I know I would have to replace the anchor line with chain and I am wondering if I need to consider adding a dedicated battery for this feature. Would like some feedback as to size and type of best windlass for my size boat.

Thanks in advance......

You don't need a separate battery nor all chain rode. That said, there are a lot of other things to address: Mounting of windlass, easier if you have a pulpit already, not so simple if you have an anchor roller, harder yet if neither.
Easier if boat pre-wired for windlass, harder if not.
Harder if you are squeamish about cutting and drilling holes in fiberglass.
It is advisable to look at similar model boats with winlasses to see what your options are.

Happy to chat about this, as I did it on our 270 Islander.
