Adding chain to anchor rode

I am about to install my new Lewmar Profish700 windlass and I would like to add a length of chain ahead of the rope rode. If I join the two sections of 1/4" chain with a cold shut (split link) will this link fit thru the anchor windlass pawls O K ?

The odds are that the section of chain you have on there now is not the correct type for your windlass.

Can't tell you if the cold link will pass through, but I wouldn't try it.

Get 30-ft of new BBB chain, splice it to the rode, and enjoy the windlass.

FYI I got a response from the Lewmar Tecnical people. They say that adding a connecting link is not a good idea.
