Hi folks. New member here. I'm taking delivery of a new Freedom 275 in May and I'm working on the electronics package. I'm going with Raymarine electronics. In particular, I am getting the Axion Pro 16 RVX with RealVision 3D. I'd prefer to use a through-hull transducer, such as the RV-200. However, the electronics shop is strongly suggesting that I go with a transom transducer, as the through-hull transducers do protrude a bit from the hull. This boat will be slip kept, but it will be taken out of the water for storage in the winter. They are concerned that the transducer will get damaged during take-out or put-in. Does anyone have the RV-200 or RV-300 transducer, and have you had any damage issues? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Also, the CHIRP transducer is not a problem as the through-hull version mounts flush to the hull. Thanks.

I wouldn't use a transom mounted transducer on a boat that size. I'd go with either the thru hull or shoot thru. The transom mounted ones are prone to damage and not worth the trouble in my opinion.
