Hi - I just purchased a brand new 2008 283 Release, and am in the process of researching electronics. I'm leaning towards the Garmin 5212. However, my installer tells me that a 12" display will not fit in the hydrolic electronics box. Has anyone here installed a Garmin 5212 or any other 12" display? If so, what brand/model? If not - what Garmin have you installed? Any advice would be great! Also, I'm looking for a casting platform/sunpad that fits between the foward fish box. Anyone have one?

I just installed two 4210's in the same boat. I almost went with 12's and am glad I did not. There is not much room left after the 4210's were installed. I'm not sure how big the 12's are but it is going to be really tight if it fits at all.

I wish I had ordered the casting platform also.

I will send you pictures of my installation.

I have an 07 283 Release. I installed the 4212 unit and had no problems with it fitting in the electronics box. I choose it over the 5212 series because I did not want the touchscreen version.

I have a raymarine c120 mounted on my 283 and it fits fine. 2 would be crowded but possible

the screens are the same size but the 5212's are touch screen so the overall width is smaller than the 4212 they both have diagonal 12.1 inch screens the only difference is that the 4212 is wider because of the buttons

I hope this is a link to a picture of two Garmin 4210's in a 283 Release.

If the 5212 is the same size, it should fit fine.

If this link doesn't work, email me and I will sent the picture to you.[/url]
