Aftermarket, back to original helm seat

A few years ago, I had posted where I changed out my original helm seat on my 2001, 282 sailfish. I went to an aftermarket seat, which had the time wasn’t crazy expensive and seemed to fit the look and the feel of what I wanted. Fast forward three years and it’s falling apart, so I’m looking to go back to the original. I have all the parts from the original seat, the issue is I used some of the parts from underneath the original seat to make the aftermarket one work. So basically it’s a mix of old hardware and new hardware. I can’t seem to find any pictures of how the original hardware went together for the original seat. By any chance, does anyone have any pictures or a step by step of taking one apart?

If you still have all of the original seat parts, I’d definitely try to put it back to stock rather than adapting another aftermarket setup.


Before taking anything apart, I’d lay out every bracket, slider, pedestal piece and fastener you have and take a few pictures. On these older boats it’s surprisingly easy to mix up which hardware belonged to the original seat and which was added later.


I’d also check with Grady-White or a dealer using your hull year/model. Even if the seat itself is discontinued, they may still have an old parts diagram or installation drawing showing the original hardware stack-up.


If you post pictures of the parts you currently have under the seat, someone with a similar 282 Sailfish may be able to compare theirs and tell you what goes where.
