Another JD Power Award for the trophy case

it's very simple actually. how times on this board does one of the first replies say "call grady customer service, they'll take care of it." ??

J D Powers? Do not want to rain on the parade but pull up the entire list of J D Powers Coastal Fishing Boats.......hardly a impressive list of competition.

I believe the companies have to have a certain number of registrations to qualify to be included in the survey. Many smaller custom builders are not included. I think Boston Whaler, Scout, Key West and Sea Hunt are all pretty respected brands. It ll about how you take care of the customer after the sale and obviously Grady has it down. :D

My buddy has a 29/30 ft BW Conquest, twin 225 Optis.

Boat is massive, rock solid. Nothing falling apart on it.

How many mass produced independant boat builders still remain?

Petition JD Powers to change their requirements to let those boats in.

Then we will see, right? I'm all for competition, the more the better.

Until them, it's nothing more than speculation.

KZ, I think Viking might be a bit upset to be called "mass produced." Also, Pursuit and Tiara are the same company. All excellent boats though.

Oh, and I'm not sure Regulator would consider itself to be a "coastal" fishing boat. I've always thought of them as a hard core offshore fishing machine.

But again, I'd love to have any of those boats!

The Grady bashers are not big fans of JD Powers either!
I wonder why?

I love my 08 Tournament 225. I owned two Boston Whalers from 1987 until 2008 and they too are well built, quality boats. The one place I think GW outshines BW is in the ride. The C Raymond Hunt Assoc Sea V2 hull put the Whalers to shame. I personally would be proud to own either company's boat, but I prefer my Grady for the ride!

wheres parker?

also look at the ski boats, Malibu is the #1 selling boat
I hate INDMAR motors! and PCM, the worst marinized motor ever

I have two comments to make on this.

By way of background, I absolutely love my boat, that said I am not enamored with GW as a company nor do I dislike them. As a person that makes his living designing and building manufacturing facilities which includes designing and engineering custom fixtures and equipment I have some experience with design and manufacturing. My assessment of GW is that the firm is well above average as a manufacturer but not an elite company by any metric.

I bought my 2008 Tournament 275 in October of 2007, took delivery in December of 2008 and put the boat into service in April of 2008.

I have had a number of minor issues and one substantial issue with my boat that is still unresolved. GW has handled the minor issues well (more accurately my dealer has) but has punted on the big one. I have been critical with the GW factory on several issues that were simply put very poorly designed that in turn caused the larger unresolved problem.

To my point, I have never heard from J.D. Powers and was never questioned as to my level of satisfaction with GW or my boat by J.D Powers or anyone representing them. I see a possible correlation here that bothers me with respect to this survey. Certainly GW does not sell that many boats (ca 1,400 +/- per yr) that J.D. Powers could not survey all new owners.

My second comment as was noted previously, why is Contender, Marine Regulator, Southport or Sea Craft not on the J.D. Powers coastal boat list? OK, I might accept the argument that these boats are in a different class but what about Pursuit??? They make the same product line for all intents and purposes as GW. It is not a true competition in my eyes when your number one competitor is not being evaluated against you.

Sorry guys but to me J.D. Powers is not credible in this particular evaluation.
