The transom is a giant aluminum i-beam running port to stb and all 8 of my outboard mounting bolts are ABOVE the waterline.
Those 225s are good motors, you'll cruisers 29 - 30 knots and have more power than you need. I have the same package but with 200's and I cruise 25 knots at 4,000 and 27 knots at 4200. I get better fuel burn at 4200 too. The best I've seen on my fuel flow is 1.2 MPG. On average when running in the ocean I'm 0.9 MPG.
My boat jumps up on plane no matter how much fuel, people or gear is onboard. 225's would be awesome to have. Etec G2 250HP would be even betrter!! lol.....but not on a $17k boat. I also docked my boat on the side of a 280 that had Honda 225 4 strokes and I studied the scuppers and I'll tell you my boat sat at the EXACT same level as his. I bet I would beat him in a race though!
I've owned my Yamaha 200's for 3 season's now and they've never failed me. They say if they idle and don't clatter while idling they're fine. Check for SS shift rods too. Those yamaha's are very simple with great electrical systems. If you remove them, let me know.
