Hello All!

Trying to become a new GW owner for the first time! Saw the 257 Fisherman but waaaaay too long a reach over the stern to be a "Fisherman" in my book.

I keep the boat moored in So. Florida(saltwater) and am keenly (neurotically?) focused on how the boat sits in the water full of fuel with the new generation Yamaha V6 250/300 - especially regarding the cockpit thru-hull drains (want them above waterline), motor bracket (hopefully not too much in the water and the tilt rod bases well above waterline), and the lower unit bullet position while fully tilted up (hopefully not touching, or barely touching the water). Trying to prevent corrosion/marine growth on the motor parts as much as possible. I remember seeing this boat at the Miami Boat Show a few years ago with the previous heavier V6 Yamaha and it seemed to sit quite low in the stern.

Seems there are none nearby to see or buy... wondering why. Anyone have any pics (ideally in the water, focused on the motor and thru hull areas) and/or feedback about the boat?

We have a disabled child so I am wondering how well the "sideways" swim platform ladder works? Is it easier or harder than the conventional ones? I see it has 4 steps instead of 3, and some substantial rails - hoping it works better!

Thanks in advance!!

Nice collection of waterline photos for a 230 with a 300 here:

(That outboard looks it could be moved up a couple of holes)

Regarding the stern design of the 257, I think most would say it is a non issue. That Eurotransom design with the door on one side and the bait well on the other was introduced about 25 years ago and if it really didn't work, it would not still be here 25 years later. I was worried about this when I first got my Sailfish and brought all the larger fish in on the starboard corner but now usually don't bother. Unless it is an exceptional fish I'll bring it in on either side and if the fish make a beeline for the props at the last second I'll jump out onto the swim platform to help the angler.

Good luck with your search.

Thanks for your help! The 230 photos don't show the motor up. Still hoping a proud 230 owner will help me with photos of their pride and joy with the motor up and feedback about their boat.

For the transom reach... I appreciate and understand your points. Still not sure about this though. Have you seen the way Scout does their transoms? Look at this:

Now THAT looks like a good place to fish!! Thanks again!

I have a 2013 230 Fisherman with F300. Bought it last October and love it! I'm sorry I don't have pics you're looking for but here is some info you might be able to use. With 70 gal fuel, full fresh water tank, and quite a bit of fishing gear on board she sits very nicely. The cockpit drains are a couple inches above the waterline. Fully tilted, the motor lower unit barely touches the water. I like the side-step swim platform. The layout is comfortable and great for fishing as well as cruising with the grandkids. It's very stable and handles well. No problems anchoring, docking, etc with just the wife and me. By the way, ours has the leaning post, live well, stern flip down seat, and t-top. Hope this helps.

Thank you for the feedback and taking the time to do so! Encouraging points. Hoping still to see some pics (full of fuel) or even better see one locally. There are very few boat dealers anymore and none in our area, Miami, have one.
