Hi Fellow 265 Express owners -

I have a new radar coming in as I redo my entire dash and was wondering if anyone has any tips on getting it mounted on the hard top. Are folks mounting on top of the bubble, in front of the bubble, on a mast? I'm getting a Raymarine RD418HD 4KW HD Digital Radar with hopes that I'll be able to use the bird mode with some effectiveness.

Thanks in advance!

In front of bubble two bolts on either side of the hardtop frame. My old raytheon and new garmin fantom 24 worked well flush to the hardtop.
I used 1/4 rubber to give it a slight fwd tilt. Ideally ou want it parallel to water when on plane.
I'm adding a 4" strut this season. that will raise it to bubbletop height so I can add a floodlight in front. It also adds a 2 degree tilt.
That raises the radar beam well above the electronics box too. My vhf antennas are top of bubble straight into elctronics box. There was not problem with that.

In front of bubble I never had any problems with wires when it was hauled. With the strut I think I will have to remove the radome for hauling

Mine was mounted on a short pedestal.

I had one mounted prior to the bubble on my 282 directly to the hardtop.
I have a mount on the 300 and it sits up nice and high (~6"). In both cases radar performance was fine.

Thanks for all of the input (and pics) folks. I think I'll go with a seaview 5" pedestal in front of the bubble.

-Cheers!
