Hello,

Not digging the "trim" that is all over my 1992 232 Gulfstream. The material is in fine shape, just the color is not so nice. Same with the white door to the cuddy. Anybody paint or stain these? Recommendations on what paint to use? I assume it's a simple as taping it off and brushing it in?

I think it would look much nicer with a fresh coat of "teak like" color.

Thoughts?

Thanks,

John

My '86 Offshore had the same problem. The previous owner tried using Spar Varnish. Everywhere the sun hit it all the varnish peeled off. I ended up pulling the trim off the rear and sanding it down and using teak oil, but like others will say it doesn't last long in the salt environment. I will say the cabin door and the trim in that area stayed real nice because it was under the hardtop.

If I kept that boat over this winter I was going to pull all the faded trim off and replace with starboard or similar. I saw a few pictures on here and I thought it looked nice.

If it's the Duratrim stuff, wipe it down with Penetrol. Aside from that, there isn't much you can do with it unless you want to replace it.
