Hi Guys- This is the first of probably many questions since this 305 is my first GW. The only thing missing (for now) is an autopilot. Looking for any members suggestions of a make and model that would be a good choice. I will mainly use it for running long distances to the tuna grounds and I will also need good course control while trolling at slow speeds (2.5 mph) when trolling for salmon often in windy and choppy conditions. My local electronics shop is suggesting Simrad (not sure what model) but any other thoughts or ideas?

SIMRAD, SIMRAD, SIMRAD.

AP-24 or AP-28.

Virtual feedback system works well, as long as set-up properly. We originally had an AP-12, then an AP-16. When the AP-16 was damaged by a near by lightning strike, we replaced with an AP-24.

I do all my own installations, and these systems are outstanding. We run 75+nm to offshore areas and troll for striped bass at minimal engine RPMs. We even troll on single engine and the AP compensates.

Thanks, this was the kind of info I am looking for. Any other feedback out there? Must be tons of GW's out there with Pilots!

Thanks guys- Sounds like a Simrad it is! Looks like the AP 28 with the course correction knob is a better bet since I have plenty of space to mount it?

Go with the simrad. I'm biased though. I have an Ap16 on my boat.

Don't intend on fouling the water here but I have a Garmin GNP-10 on my Marlin. Works great.

Thanks.. How does it hold course on choppy, windy days at slow speeds?

It does well with the exception of a quartering following sea over 3 feet. It does try and wander some.
