At the advice of GW tech service, bought 3 new Grp 24 starting batteries(800MCA) for my 2000 272 Sailfish (200 HP Yamahas 2-strokes) today. Nice people loaded the batteries into my van for me. Arriving home, found that one of the batteries is a deep cycle Grp 24. Am thinking of using it as the accessory battery in the three battery set-up of port/starboard/accessory. Most fishing is offshore in the Gulf using live well, refrigerator, wash down pump, radar and electronics. The deep cycle is rated as 685 MCA, 85 Amp Hrs, with a reserve of 140.
On board 110V charger is Guest 2630 30 Amp 3-bank charger.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Welcome !

Are you sure they made a mistake?

The deep cycle is more expensive than starters.

Yea use it for the "house" system. It can take discharging much better than the starting batteries and last longer too.

Now if you do this, that is using the deepcycle as the house battery, I guess you must have 3 switches? The only reason I ask is that I want to add a 3rd batt. on my 263 but only have 2 switches.

My Sailfish uses 2 starting batteries and 1 deep cycle for the electronics. I have 3 switches.

I have 3 batteries and 3 switches, definitely use the deep cycle for your accesories that is perfect and the others for your starter batteries.
