I need to replace my batteries, currently there are 2 24s in the boat, I was hoping to step up to 27s. My question is 1 will they fit in the compartment and two will they fit the trays currently in there. I forgot to measure before I left the boat. Length on the 27s is 12 3/4". I have a 2005 228 with F225. Looking at interstate deep cycle/starting battery. Thanks in advance

Grady has been using a pair of Deka Marine Master 27M6 batteries for boats rigged with 150-250 hp Yamahas. They are one of the few Grp 27 starting batteries that meet the Yamaha specs for reserve capacity.

They fit, they aren't ridiculously expensive, and they are very good batteries. They are flooded cell, but they are regenerative. That means that you hardly ever need to add water. I haven't added any water to mine over the past 3 years.

I run Interstate batteries in my boat. Specifically the Group 24m-xhd. I just replaced a pair that was 6+ years old because one finally gave up the ghost. The other still tests good and is in my shop as a spare.

At $115ea, I don't think you can beat them. I put them on a charger maybe 1 or 2x a year and they have never let me down.

thanks for the replies. That Interstate is the exact battery I am looking at, just looking at or wanted to know if the 27s would fit in the tray and compartment, the 27s are 12 3/4", the 24s are only 11" in length.

I have two Sears Platinum group 31m batteries (13 inches) on mine. They are tight, but they fit.
