This is for the benefit of anyone who has a problem in the future.

My trim tabs would not deploy. On a 2004 Marlin, the pump is on the port side panel (on the wall) in the v-birth.

1. Check the fluid in the pump unit, fully deployed the fluid should be about 2 inches from the bottom

2. There is a fuse, Grady retrofitted the inline fuse that comes as a stock part on the actual switch mechanism with a 20a fuze in the small fuse panel under the helm. THe power line is the orange one.

3. In my scenario, the switch would not work. So I bypassed the swich using the following guidelines, from Bennett.

  • Orange ( + ), blue, red Port trim tab down
Orange ( + ), blue, green Starboard trim tab down
Orange ( + ), blue, red, green Both trim tabs down
Orange ( + ), yellow, red Port trim tab up
Orange ( + ), yellow, green Starboard trim tab up
Orange ( + ), yellow, red, green Both trim tabs up

Crossing wires made it work, bought a new switch and good to go. The folowing link is a useful troubleshooting guide for Bennett Trim tabs.
