I am looking to buy a Grady center console, 20' or 22', what is the best 4 stroke hp for these boats. It will be used on Long Island for inshore and offshore fishing. Performance is more important then fuel economy.

You're looking for at least a 150HP...maybe closer to 200HP on a newer CC....always check the max HP on the boats boiler plate rating

My 20' overniter

I had a 200hp 2 stroke and it cruised at 34 mph and toped out at 44. I would not go below 200hp on either and with a 4 stoker it'll be even better.

i agree, I have a 208 and a F200 its a perfect engine for the hull. I can see where a F150 would be a little lite and if it had a hard top for sure underpowered. The weight of the F200 and F225 are about the same.

I also have the 1999 209 Escape .I am running with 150hp 2stroke cruise at 30mph and WOT 40mph. I wish I have 200 or 225hp. If 20ft go with 200 - 225 if you have 22ft go with 225-250hp.

For the 22 CC, go with 225 or 250. I have the 250 and its a great match for the boat. Top end around 48 mph and cruises at 30 mph at 4000 rpm and about 9 gallons per hour at 30 mph. Gets on plane FAST.

I've got a 1995 Adventure 208 with hardtop and 2005 F-225 4 stroke.
It runs almost 48 mph and the ride is great. Cruise at 30mph at 4200 rpm[/img]

I think you answered your own question with the reference to performance. I have a f150 on my 209 that lives on the Sea of Cortez and really like it, for this boat economy is an issue. Moving up to 6 cylinders the weights are all close and the f250 really shines.....Tom
