What is the biggest 4 stroke one would put on the hull? It is a 1997 and the placard says 230 hp max, for 2 strokes.
I have seen a couple of f225 's for sale and would consider them...

I tried to highjack my own thread by posting this question on my other forum question

Thanks!

Save yourself the aggravation and just buy the 4cyl f200. Read all the threads on here about it. I have 350 hours on mine and I love it.

I agree. The 200 4 cyl weighs in at 490lbs while the 225 6 cyl is around 100 more. The 200 also has the same bolt pattern as the older two strokes.
Back when all outboards were two stroke they all weighed about the same for a given hp. They could say it could handle X amount of weight hanging on the transom with X amount hp pushing it so they’d just say your good for 230.
My ‘87 is rated for 230 also but in ‘87 a 225 weighed around 370 or so lbs. The ‘03 Suzuki DT225 I have on it weighs in at 470lbs.
With a full tank of gas and 4-5 people on board I get a couple of inches of water on the deck through the scuppers while drifting. My passengers ask if we’re sinking?
That motor with push a loaded boat to 48mph though. The 200 will do very close to that.
I pretty sure your year boat will handle the weight better than mine on floatation though.
