Yesterday I trailered to the Outer Banks and dropped my ski at at a ramp in Wanchese. I departerd Oregon Inlet around 0700 hrs and headed south with a fleet of commercial and charter boats. It was almost glassy condition with four to five foot swells, light rain and fog. Later in the day it cleared up.
Ended up about 17 miles South, there were tons of bait and later on birds diving everywhere. Netters and trawlers were fishing the area hard. I did not see any Striped Bass pulled up by net but menhaden were plenty. I trolled for several hours through loads of bait but did not have any knock downs. I not see any of the other boats around me catch either. Some days are just that way,
I still had a good day and it is always cool to see the Gannets slamming into the water. Here are some pictures;
