While cleaning my new GW 222 today, I noticed black or green marks in the silicon joint area above the fishing rod racks on both sides of the boat. I thought it might be mildew or mold and applied some clorox bleach. The spots did not come out. There are also green or black spots on the rubber rod holder covers at the end of the rod racks.

Any ideas on how I should treat these and what they are.

Thanks.

Pull the caulk out and redo, it is possible that there was a gap or air got in there and it formed mildew below the surface, I've seen it happen before. Some silicone's do have a habit of that happening, why I am not sure. Depending on how old the boat is, I'd consider calling Grady to ask them they will know what to do, and if nothing else I'd hope they'd send you some free caulking to replace the old stuff if that is the solution.

Thanks for information.

You may be correct. The boat is a new 2006 model. It was put in the water in Sept 2007, taken out in October 2007, and put back in the water two weeks ago.

I will contact Grady White.
