bottom paint and saving fuel costs...

the blasting process costs what it does for one reason....it's worth it !!! there's a shop near me,these guys hand sand the bottom,it takes their guy 1 week to sand the bottom paint off...that's 8hr days too...
playing scraping,and whatever else is just plain dumb...there's a member of this board,his boat was blasted at my shop,after he tried to remove the paint with a power washer...listen,i've seen this quite a few times...step up and write a check do it once and do it the right way....send the rig over to that guy jhines posted about,do the finish work yourself...

I have had scraped Wooden hulls completely(see my pics of one of them)
If could have them blasted, I would have and that hull is only 20'

$$CHEAP MONEY$$$ vs. aggravation and too much time!!!!

Altough it may come off easy in one spot, there will 1000 other spots
that will seem like you need dynamite to blast them off!

So blast them to begin with with soda! :lol:

I will never scrape again! notice I bought my Sailfish with
a virgin bottom, no paint, on a trailer. That was a big plus 4 me.

If I ever upgrade to a bigger GW and leave her in, I will put $$$
aside in a kitty throughout the season to pay someone, like Jimmy,
to do it right when the time came. Worth it!!!
 
Jimmy, my my barrier and paint price was materials only if I do the rest of the work myself. Since its blocked I have contemplated it as I am usually a DIY person, but my yard guy is so cheap I almost just want to let him finish it. I'm going for two coats of barrier one white, one grey. I did not have a single blister on the boat.

Barrier coating is for blister repair and prevention if after 18 years of saltwater use there are no blisters, without barrier coat, I'm pretty safe. The boat will be dried for 2-3 months by then. I'm mostly having the barrier put on to make back up and thickness removed by blasting. My guy told me the extended price for the barrier and paint, and It is much less than I could go buy it for, thus my total to finish may be $600-$800 for him to do it.

If this job cost me more than $1200 total having him do it, i'd be shocked. $1200-$1400 was the going rate here on the Eastern shore of MD. Most blast companies want $30-35/ft though so I parted out the work it would have been higher. My guy was per hour +materials and worked out to $290 extended to me, I don't know what he charged my yard. It's all who you know I guess. jh
