Broken gimbles in rod holders.

Has anyone ever tried to fix the gimble (metal pegs) that are at the bottom of the gunnel mounted rod holders which keeps the rod from turning around, without having to take out the entire side of the boat to get to them and unbolt them to get them out?

I had one of mine break. I just unbolted it drilled new holes and put in a stainless steel bolt and bolted it back in. Also put sealent in bolt holes. Easier with help of another person.
