Hello all,

What do we look at when buying a used propeller? Is there any classic knowledge we should all know about?

In other words, I've borrowed a used prop to test (and possibly buy) on my 208 - it's a 17' Mercury Revolution 4 (stainless). Prop looks totally fine, with no nicks, scratches, visible repairs, sounds ok when hit (all 4 fins sound the same, if that makes any sense)... The fins do not look warped/bent and the surface is fine. Excluding a visit to a specialist, what else do we look for?

Many thanks!

PS> anyone else using a Rev 4 / Yamaha 225 / Adventure 208?

Prop should be fine. Now if it runs smooth, with no viberation, you get the desired performance "rpm, planeing ability, speed and ect." you should be good to go provided the price is right.
Just make sure it works for your boat under the normal load which you will be useing.

Antaris, I am pretty much in agreement with my friend GW Voyager. One other thing I would consider is how many operating hours are on the prop? Are the inner part of the hub and spline in good shape? Like GW says, the main thing is does it run smooth and does your boat act like you want it to? Hope it all works out for you! 8)

Well, I borrowed the prop and did install the Mercury Revolution 4 last Sunday, but the weather was nasty and therefore I did not manage to do proper number-crunching.

First impressions are positive - the 208 jumped to a plane almost immediately and the stern felt higher. Also, the bite was definitely better in the 3-4 foot waves, as well as the ride overall (since the bow was lower, with less flaps usage).

Now, I wanna check out the actual numbers in relation to fuel efficiency... and will report when I get them in!

Cheers for the responses.
