Where is the best place to buy a Deka battery? One of mine just went bad. Over 7 years old so it’s hard to go with anything else.

I'd do an internet search and check get the price ranges, then look locally.

Did that first, but with limited success. Now have local battery distributors looking.

Lowes can get them for you at a good price if you can get your local store to order them. They don't stock the Marine Master 27m that you want, but they can order them for you. You just have to find a store that is willing to go through the bother.

I noticed Lowes sells Deka, but didn't see the 27 model. Good idea about asking them to order a 27. I noticed West Marine shows a model with exact specs as Deka 27. Seems I saw somewhere on this forum earlier that some West batteries are made by Deka. Seems that's a good possibility on model 27.

Did you try the dealer locator on their website? Last time I checked they had that feature - although it's been a while. The company is East Penn Manufacturing in PA. You could also try calling and asking as there may be more places that sell them than what is listed.

I just tried it and it seems to be working - at least for me. Maybe it's some kind of setting on your computer? Either way, I'm sure their phone number works... ;)

Hmmm. Strange. Sounds like it must be something on your computer or server. When I click on the "Division" I get a drop down menu and can select "Transportation".

For what it's worth, I've had great luck with Dekas, like you. I've been using them for nearly 20 years, now.

I'll either find one locally or confirm the Deka/West Marine connection and get one through West.

Call Deka for that confirmation - I wouldn't trust anyone but them to be sure. Something else to double check on... I "think" I remember that the Duracell brand is made by Deka and made to the same specs.

I put in the West Marine group 27 starting batteries last year. Actually did all 4. Yamaha and Grady recommended them. The key I guess is the 182 reserve minutes for my F225s. In any case they work fine.

The big question is not whether they "work", though :) I'm sure they supply 12V. Dekas have a reputation for lasting a very long time in a marine environment without being overpriced. They tend be an excellent bang-for-the-buck battery.

West Marine does sell the Deka 27m under their own brand name. The only problem is that they want almost twice as much as you will pay for the Deka branded battery if you look around.

I looked up the Deka dealers closest to you on their website:

Nobody is really close. I'd check a few Lowes and see if you can find someone who will order them for you.

Deka private labels em for West Marine, just keep your eyes open for a sale. I buy and replace all three on my boat every 3-4 years depending on how they are holding a charge, etc. I don't want any issues 75 miles offshore. I then keep the best one or two as a spare for the hydra-glow and for extra. Zero complaints, Grady in fact told me to get them from West!

Just for giggles, I entered my own zip code on their website. I KNOW FOR A FACT, now, that the website doesn't return all retailers. I know this because I work part time at a marina and we carry Deka... but we are NOT listed. Maybe a phone call would work, though.

Thanks again Doc. Just bought one from the dealer in Macon. He'll deliver it to a friend of mine up there who will bring it to me. As info, price was $138 whereas the WM version is $208. Quite a difference.
