Dirty arm rests

Has anyone tried painting their uncleanable arm rests

Yes I painted them using general hardware spray paint and it worked well. Tried everything to clean the mold spots before I went with the paint.

Dennis, the only product I've tried is 3M Marine Mold and Mildew Block. It seemed to work for a while. The only reason I chose that one was that it said "Marine". All of the products that say things like "mold inhibitor" rather than protectant should work.

The product you mentioned sounds interesting since it's cheaper and is supposed to last longer.

Thanks, Doc. I think I'll give that a try over the winter. There's no question that a main reason I get mold is because the gel is chalky so it holds lots of "food". I have limited time when I'm at the cottage and I just don't feel like spending that time buffing and waxing. If I can find a product to help me "cheat" a little bit...

A&J: Not really answering the question, but my armrests were so bad that none of cleaning solutions described in this thread worked for me. Another user suggested SEM Marine Vinyl Coat spray paint. It has worked reasonably well for me. Rather a pain to remove the arms and carefully tape them up for spraying every few years, but the results have been good.

When i bought her ex owners wife sewed some kind of socks to slide over the armrest but it looked more shitty than the dirty cushion, so i took them off.
What i may do this winter is to have the arm rest cushions covered with Hypalon for RIB's but need to discuss this with my upholstery guy.
This would als solve the annoyance hat the arm rests tend to catch shirts as they are somehow sticky.
Or i just replace the two seats as the plastic start to become "chalky" and call it a day.
