If I want to charge batteries using shore power do I have to move battery select switches to on or I do only put on power in cabin ?

Probably depends on how your battery charger is wired. Mine has a switch under the AC side of the panel to turn on/off the battery charger. As for the battery select switches, I keep them in the off position, but pretty sure that just cuts power to the motors, and maybe some other circuits. There is also a DC power switch in my panel.

What model and year is your boat?

if wired correctly, batteries can be on or off. The AC service at the power panel has to be on and the switch for the charger if there is one. The battery switch only needs to be on if you want to use something that is 12v powered and connected through the switches. Foe example, some like to leave a stereo on to deter critters. In that case the appropriate battery switch would need to be on as well as the switch for that accessory (again, if there is one)

265 Express

If the wiring was not changed then the charger is powered by AC thru a breaker on the AC panel and the charger wires go directly to the batteries.
They will charge the batteries with the Battery switches in any position.
To operate 12vDC "House " circuits you will have to have the starboard switch to position 1.

My 265 only has an AC panel, no DC panel. However, the manual does show an AC/DC breaker panel.
