Has anyone ever dyed old cabin cushion covers? I bought some polyester dye, but it requires boiling water. I’m afraid the covers will melt or shrink to toy boat size! Help please!

Have you considered reupholstery? I just had all cabin (v-berth and midship berth) cushions reupholstered and the snaps replaced on all five outside cushions for $500.

Thanks. I’ll look into that again. Prices I got here in Maine were much higher.

Funny, but getting all the interior cushions completely replaced with Sunbrella and new foam, plus the rear seat was close to 5k here. No idea how you could get that work done for so little.

I was never able to find out for sure if my cushion covers were washable at all or dry cleanable for that mater. There are no care tags that I can find.

We replaced the cloth with marine vinyl. It’s so humid here year round it’s much easier to keep them clean. Also, we reused the bottom pieces for each cushion. But I agree that we got a great deal at $500. They look great.

This can be a DIY job for those with access to a decent sewing machine. All materials can be purchased for a fraction of the costs you all are mentioning. Talk to someone you know that sews and they’ll probably help you out. Also you don’t need or probably want sunbrella for cushions, it’s not that comfortable.

That deal was beyond great!! The covers are washable and ours have been put in dryer. Just a bit of shrinking. I’m going to start with curtains & see how regular dye works before I even think about boiling them!

These are the cushions we had reupholstered. The foam cushions themselves were in great shape. To save a little time and money, we reused the underside upholstery pieces which were also in great shape. We had dark brown piping done to match the existing backrest upholstery.

Wow! If they would do mine for that price, I would ship them the covers. But would wait until season is over. Our boat will be pulled out & shrink wrapped in October.

Apples and oranges for sure. It was a significant amount of cost to replace the foam as well as the bottoms. Old dog pee just is not what you want in the cabin.

Here is what we ended up with.

Looks very nice. Makes me reconsider red.

Thanks y’all. I used Rit blue liquid dye to see how the window coverings would turn out. Not fun stirring a hot pot for 45 minutes. They came out looking kinda like denim. The dark dyed darker than the light & the lining looks better than the curtain. But I no longer have pink in them. Will reupholster after the season ends.

We had our interion cushions redone in Sunbrella and it is great for easy cleanup and no mold. The original cushions were mold magnets.

I did my curtains and decided to take a chance on the cushions. They look pretty good for their age! Will get us through the season. Definitely better than the pink they were!
