I don't like the way this is going. Put both batteries in yesterday checked them both out one was dead wouldn't turn a light on. Tested battery and decided to replace it. Put new battery in and same thing got just enough juice to dimley turn on light them nothing. Batteries are hooked up correctly. Now I did fing a couple of mice turds so I'm expecting a short. Any suggestions on where I should start. It's a 09 seafarer :bang

Feel wires to see if you can find one getting hot, or even warm. Trace it down. Get a voltmeter and measure the battery terminal voltage as you remove wires, pull out fuses, disconnect accessories, or otherwise eliminate what could be shorted. The battery voltage should go up when you find the culprit. FYI, charged batteries that are not being charged measure about 12.6 v +/- 0.5v depending on temp.

Alternately, remove all connections to the battery and measure its voltage. Then reconnect things one at a time while measuring the battery voltage. A significant drop when you hook up a connection indicates a large current draw. That could be it.

Good luck.

I'm thinking the battery selector but it started to pour out and I'll have to wait until the weather breaks before going further. I think a voltmeter is next on my list

Sleeping on this all night so one more thing to ask. Everything is running fine on battery #1 it's when I switch over to battery #2 that power drops to nothing. Is it battery selector or do you think I some how crossed the wires when hooking up batteries? :?

Ah, Minor detail, that..

Put a jumper wire from the #2 battery to the output from the battery switch, with the switch in the #2 position, and see if that helps. If so, replace the battery switch. If not, charge/replace the battery.

Also, before doing the above, check the negative terminal and wiring of the #2 battery to make sure it's firmly connected. Lose wires in the ground system are as bad as in the feed portion.

i had a similar problem one year, i forgot to hook up a small ground wire that had fallen down and i didnt notice. made me have no power at all. since then, when i remove the batteries i zip tie all the terminals that need to be connected together. good luck hope its this simple

Now I'm working in between down pours. I got back out there tonight and wired the batterys back up. Power to only battery one. Switched the selector to battery 2, nothing. Then I switched the postive wire from battery one to battery 2 and now there's power to # 2 no power in #1. So that tells me the selector is working fine so it has to be a problem with the one positive wire. I'm going jump wire it tomorrow before I tie it all together. Hope this is it.

Victory!!!!!!!!!! :dance Put a jumper cable on the battey that had no power and conneted it to the selector and full power. So I had a bad power cable all along. Easy enough to fix that. Now if the rain will stop so I can finish the rest of the boat and get it in the water.
