Our family really likes this boat, we have test drive 2, today it was pretty choppy w 4 to 5 footers, boat handled very well, some spray over the bow, Just trying to get feedback from others on this boat. Ones I have been looking at have twin 250’s between 500 and 1000 hours

I have an 04 Sailfish with tn 4.2L 250's. It is a great boat for fishing , cruising and an occasional overnight trip. Handle most water like a champ. I regularly fish 20-30 miles off shore and have never had a concern about this boat. The only watch out I could advise you of is the year range you are looking at be sure to check whether the engines have been update with new exhaust to eliminate the possibility of dry exhaust rust. If they have not you could always negotiate the repair cost into the price. I would also have a surveyor do a moisture check of the fiberglass to ensure there is no water intrusion. Good Luck

Thanks, I haven reading up on that and have found a great survey guy. We test drive a 2007w 250 05/06 yammies and about800 hours, the guy sent me all the records and took amazing care of boat , spent 3-4K a year since 2012 being proactive and fit and finish, problem is he wants 30 percent more than market. I did deprecation calc since he bought it and my surveyguy gave me market value for better/best. It is a 60-65k boat, not mid 80s

any thoughts?

800 hours is not really high end for 4 strokes, some commercial guys are running into the 4-5 K range. A friend just bought a 2000 with 540 hours on his for $35K. The Sailfish go pretty quick when listed, particularly for well maintained ones. I would say mid 80s would be the price if the engines were on the newer side. I saw one listed in Fort Lauderdale last week it was a 2006 repowered in 2015 with Yamaha 300s for 89K. You could always throw them an offer

Ft Meyers, not Ft Lauderdale, unless there are 2 out there with 300's. For $89K, I'd want a hardtop!!Screenshot_20200621-134510_Chrome.jpg

Had a 2003 w/ twin 225s. Always thought the 250s would have been a better match, but do agree with Iceman that this is a great boat for offshore fishing and cruising with family. My only 2 complaints were the width between the 2 captain's chairs (perhaps side bench may be better spaced) and it was a difficult boat to fish alone with the step-up cockpit. Kids are grown and on their own now so downsized to 25ft CC.

I had a 2006 Sailfish with T225HP for about 8 years. Used it off of MA south shore and Cape Cod. The 28' hull provides a great ride with the 9'6" beam. Brought me home in some tough conditions, it can handle more than I can! We never used the cabin for an overnight, but it was great when my kids were younger so they could get out of the sun and hang out or nap. The one posted here from Florida is quite pricey for the year and hours, with no hard top. I would highly recommend the hardtop for full enclosure, radar etc. Caught a lot of fish on that boat, she is still at my marina with a new owner and running great.

The 225s were perfect power for me. Very rarely ran faster than 30mph anyway in our waters.

Highly recommend this model, happy to answer any specific questions.

Just put an offer and accepted on a 2003 w twin 225 (w 1,000 hours) and trailer. Really love the boat and got it for a reasonable price. Doing the motor full diagnostics Friday including dropping lower unit and checking the exhaust. The exhaust was not done, one thing that worries me. After the engine check I will do boat survey. How worried should I be about the exhaust? Appreciate all the advice.

Negotiate!!!

When I bought my 228, I got an estimate from MY mechanic to do the exhaust for me. I contacted seller and he agreed to reduce cost of boat by the estimate. He was aware of the exhaust issue but hadn't done the work. I much preferred my mechanic to do it versus his mechanic that I don't know. Once done, I've had no issues with my F225. If everything else checks out, doing the exhaust is minor. If it's severely pitted, might be a different story concerning the bottom of the powerhead, only way to know for sure is pull powerhead. A 5 star Yamaha dealer should be able to give you an honest assessment of what you have going into the deal.

I have 2006 motors with 520 hours and one is just showing signs of needing to be done. Should be about 4k to 5k for both to be done. Negotiate it into the price. Surprised they lasted to 1000 hours without be done.
