Flush mount- whats a good backing plate material?

I'm flush mounting my electronics and have taken the 1/8" glass material out. Does anyone know the exact name for this glass? I want to use a thicker black (like the OEM) for a backing plate or maybe a white materail used like I've seen in other posts.

starboard is what you want

I chose 1/2" thick black starboard when I made a flush mount panel for my boat. I routed the facing edge.
