Forward spot light

Hi,
I have a 2002 GW 330 Express. I don't have a spot light on the hardtop that I could use for docking in the dark or for navigation at night. Does anyone have any recommnedations on lights to use and/or how to mount one?

i don't go out at night much, but i put a golight portable wired remote on my 232. i attached the "shoe" to the hardtop and the light slides into it when you need it. plugs into the 12vdc outlet. it also has a suction mount. keeping it out of the weather until you need it certainly makes it last. haven't done anything with the 330 yet, but will probably get another golight. ron

I won't tell you how to use a spot light, but I will offer how not to use it.

You mention "navigation at night", and I hope you mean for those very brief uses where you need to illuminate a non-lighted navigation mark for identification, or perhaps look at something in/on the water.

Use of these lights as "head lights" to illuminate the path ahead is prohibited, and dangerous. No matter how you mount it, the back scatter from the light will impair your critical night vision, and the light can so easily ruin the night vision on the bridge of any other vessel that you inadvertently sweep.

Finally, you are not permitted to show lights that will confuse or interfere with the visibility of your vessel's navigation lights, and a spot or flood light left illuminated will certainly do that.

I use, and recommend, a high-quality hand-held flood/spot light. Easy to store, and to use for those infrequent moments when it really is needed and should be used.

Thanks for the feedback. I agree, running at night with it is crazy. I need it to illuminate my bow when I am depolying my sea anchor, 90 nm offshore as well as looking for moorings in my harbor as I go to the dock.
 
I mounted this on the very end of the pulpit..Pulled power from the windlass. It comes with a Perko Mount. It's wireless remote so no wires have to be run for control. The Perko socket has a sliding cover so when you don't need the light you stow it and close it up. Just need to be sure to pack it with grease so corrosion won't build.
