I am a new and excited Freedom 285 owner.
The boat has everything on it except Auto pilot
I’ve been around boats all my life but never owned one. I’m 70
My question is I’d like to take it on vacation from south of Boston to Nantucket Ma in July. Am I crazy to do this?
Any recommendations would help
Thanks

I'd try Martha's Vineyard first. Easy ride by water if you hug the coast and then go through the canal. Nantucket is further, can be done but pick your days.

Just curious, what do you mean you have been around boats all your life? Are you an experienced captain? I've never boated up in New England, but I recently visited Boston and the surrounding area. The tides are crazy compared to my area and you really have to know where you are going. Rough water and lots of wind also. Made me grateful for where I live.

Not at all. I am 68 and have a 100 ton Master Captain's license. I took my Freedom 285 from the south shore of Long Island to and from Mallets Bay Vermont. It's a great boat as long as you watch your weather. I do have an autopilot and would not want to hand steer for long trip.
